‘Archiving Cultures’ is a sporadical research and events project that is part of the Institute for Modern and Contemporary Culture at the University of Westminster. In the year 2009-2010, the project presented two collaborative conferences: ‘Old Media / New Work: Obsolete Technology and Contemporary Art’, with The Magic Lantern Society (01.05.10); and ‘The Hole in Time: German-Jewish Political Philosophy and the Archive’, with the Centre for German-Jewish Studies at the University of Sussex (23-24.06.10). The project also hosted a symposium: ‘Contemporary Vernacular Photographies’, with The Photographers’ Gallery, London (03.09.11); and an online conference ‘Materialities of Text: Between the Codex and the Net’ (24.10.11 – 04.11.11). The latter event has been collated and developed in a journal special issue in New Formations 78 (2013).
